DOCILE BODIES (LOS CUERPOS DOCILES) + SKYPE Q&A
Dir. Diego Gachassin, Matías Scarvaci , Argentina/ Brazil, 75 mins
An investigation of the politics of the forbidden.
A raw and moving film, Docile Bodies explores the experience of marginalisation in the criminal justice system. Following the complex relationship between lawyer Alfredo Garcia Kalb and two of his young clients, the film takes viewers into the Argentinian legal world, laying bare its processes, the penalties it imposes and the painful consequences for the two men and their families.
Here, the line between the personal and professional is often blurred. As it builds up a complex picture of the lawyer’s role, the film asks us to reflect on the ethics of the law, questioning what is allowed and what is forbidden.
Skype Q&A with directors Diego Gachassin and Matías Scarvaci following the screening will be hosted by Kieron Corless, the deputy editor of Sight & Sound
The Argentinian focus programme on Sunday 23 April is presented in association and with the support of The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, University of London CSSD
